Why I Love Film Photography and the Benefits of Hiring a Hybrid Photographer

I love film and I hope you will love it too.

In my pursuit to create magic with my photography, I fell in love with film, I found an art form that speaks to the soul and I’m obsessed. The way that film looks and feels is an experience in itself; the softness of the colours evokes a sense of calmness, while the grainy texture adds character and depth to the image. There’s a subtle warmth and nostalgic quality that envelops the photograph, making it a timeless piece of art.

MADE ME BE A BETTER PHOTOGRAPHER

Using a film camera has made me a better photographer, it requires me to be more intentional in my approach. Every photo requires careful consideration of the composition, background, lighting, and direction.  I need to slow down and take the time to plan out each shot before clicking the frame.

The process of shooting on film makes me feel like they’ve achieved something truly special. With every click of the button, I need to think if the image I’m capturing is correct and perfect. Shooting on film is undoubtedly an art form that requires a meticulous approach to every frame. The process of shooting on film forces photographers to be selective, intentional, and mindful of every element in the frame. It offers a different level of control, flexibility, and artistry, making photographers feel like they have achieved something truly special with every click of a button.

Film cameras offer a different level of control, flexibility and artistry compared to their digital counterparts. Film grains are unique, and the texture and colour saturation of the finished product gives a different aesthetic value. Consequently, shooting on film is more rewarding for photographers who seek to experiment with their art and push their creativity to the limit.

ORGANIC TRUE TO LIFE NATURAL LOOK

The soft colours, beautiful light, and the timeless essence of the film. These are the ingredients of a truly captivating photograph. As a photographer, I realised the power of film in rendering images with an organic, natural look that transcends the present moment. So I began editing my photos in this aesthetic, marrying the gentle hues and soft focus of film with my own creative vision.

Whether it’s capturing the serenity of nature or the intimacy of human emotion, film photography has the ability to convey the essence of the moment in a way that other mediums cannot. It requires a certain level of attentiveness and patience to craft the perfect shot, but the reward is a photo that not only looks beautiful but also evokes a feeling of belonging.

Film photography is a celebration of the delicate intricacies of life. It captures the soft colours, beautiful light, and the timeless essence of the world around us in a way that is both organic and natural. It’s an art form that has the power to transport the viewer to another place and time, and I am honoured to be part of the journey.

THE EXCITEMENT OF RECEIVING PHOTO BACK

There’s something thrilling about sending your film rolls off to the lab and waiting for them to be developed. The excitement builds as you eagerly anticipate the moment you can finally see your film photos.

With the rise of instant gratification in our digital world, it’s easy to forget the joys that come with waiting for something special. Receiving photos back from the lab reminds me to savour these small moments and appreciate the beauty that can be found in a film photograph.

The process of waiting for developed photos can enhance the emotional connection to the images. Waiting for the photos to develop creates a sense of anticipation and excitement that builds up as the wait progresses. This builds a stronger connection to the images as emotions and memories associated with them are heightened. The anticipation of what the photos will reveal also adds to the emotional connection, making the final product more meaningful and significant. Additionally, waiting for physical film photos can create a sense of nostalgia, as it takes us back to a time when printed photographs were the only way to preserve memories. Overall, the waiting process adds a layer of emotional depth and significance to the photos, making them more cherished and valued.

Benefits of Hiring a Hybrid Photographer

Hiring a Hybrid photographer is a unique photography genre that combines the best of both digital and film photography. It has become increasingly popular due to its ability to deliver high-quality, natural-looking images that are both timeless and elegant.

The benefits of hybrid photography are manifold. For one, it creates images that are true to life, capturing the real essence of the subject, which is often difficult to achieve with digital photography alone. Film photography has a certain quality that is hard to replicate with a digital camera, and when combined with digital editing tools, it can create a unique and stunning look.

As a Fine Art Photographer, I offer a distinct approach to capturing images. With film, it produces images that are fresh, artful, and unique, delivering a visual experience that digital-only photography cannot match. The use of film also adds a sense of nostalgia and a timeless quality to the images, making them perfect for display both in galleries and at home.

With its ability to capture natural images that are both timeless and elegant, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking to create artful and unique visuals. So, if you want to capture stunning and natural images that stand the test of time, hybrid photography is the way to go.
